Rubber Barons: how Vietnamese companies and international financiers are driving a land grabbing crisis in Cambodia and Laos.

Global Witness’ new report

Josie Cohen, Land Campaigner, Global Witness

Rubber Barons reveals how vast amounts of land have been acquired for rubber plantations in Cambodia and Laos by two of Vietnam’s biggest largest companies, Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) and the Vietnam Rubber Group (VRG). It describes the devastating impact these land grabs are having on local communities and the environment. It also – for the first time – exposes the role international finance is playing bank-rolling these companies, including Deutsche Bank and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) – the private lending arm of the World Bank.
