500 women farmers in Andhra Pradesh protesting against BT Cotton
Over 500 women farmers from Andhra Pradesh protest against the Government of India’s inaction against the spread of Bt cotton in their area. Farmers are lured by the Bt seed dealers’ promises of great returns only to find that not even 50% of the promised yields are realised. The women farmers are demanding a total ban on Bt cotton and that serious criminal charges be brought against the Bt dealers. The women took an effigy of a “GMO DEMON” on yesterday’s procession, burning it in front of a government office.
